STEM PRODIGY July-August Summer Camps

STEM PRODIGY July-August Summer Camps

Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday & Monday-Friday Camps

The camp day is comprised of two sessions where your child chooses to learn about Coding (Scratch/Python/Java), Robotics (LEGO/VEX) or CAD (TinkerCAD/Fusion360) in the morning and afternoon. Each child will be initially assessed their level of knowledge by the instructors, so that groups can be appropriately formed. Lessons will be tailored to incorporate material learned the prior day. Brainstorming and collaboration in teams are essential in each session.

Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday Specialized Camps

A. Engineering and Innovation (CAD and 3D printing) Camp This introductory class to engineering processes utilizes traditional sketching techniques using pencil and paper to capture ideas and convert them electronically using CAD tools. Once the design is done on CAD, students will create their innovation using a 3-D printer. Students will be given a problem to solve and collaborate with teammates to develop solutions. Solutions will repeatedly be examined and improved, as if they were engineers. The tools used will be transferable to high school and college level engineering classes. The curriculum was developed with input from top engineering schools and hiring managers from technology firms.

What students will learn: a. How to sketch like an engineer or design in 2D/ 3D b. How to use TinkerCAD/Fusion 360 to create objects and combine objects to make custom 3D designs c. How to think and innovate like an engineer, individually and in a team d. How to present technical ideas and draw conclusions in a group setting

B. Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Camp This class is for those who have some basic understanding of robotics and coding. Students will learn robotics (scaled to age and experience level) using LEGO or VEX robotics. AI will be investigated and its application in technology (Alexa, Siri, Robots). Students will build a smart robot in a team setting, where AI is used to make the robot more human-like. The curriculum was developed with input from top engineering schools and hiring managers from technology firms.

What students will learn: a. How to build a robot and program the robot to do tasks b. How to incorporate AI into a robot and see the improvements c. How to present their robot and work in a team setting
